Explore Nature with Your Family
Tid til Tur is the whole family's shortcut to more nature experiences. Volunteer nature guides make it easy to discover the many fun and educational experiences that await in nature. From tracking in the forest to fishing in the lake. From seaweed gathering on the coast to insect safaris in the park. Tid til Tur is a collaboration between The Danish Society for Nature Conservation, The Danish Hunters' Association, and The Danish Sport Fishing Association. The project is supported by the AAGE V. JENSEN NATURFOND.
The three organizations aim to bring children closer to nature and make it easier for families with children to take their first steps outdoors so that more children can enjoy meaningful nature experiences and strengthen their connection to the natural world. It is more important than ever to help children and families get outside, as each generation spends less time in nature than the previous one.
The organizations approached Dwarf with the vision of creating a platform that enhances nature education for children. The goal was to equip more adults—parents, grandparents, young people, and volunteers—with the knowledge and tools to bring children into nature, while consolidating all excursions and activities from green and blue organizations across Denmark into a single online platform. This makes it easy for families to take the first step into nature.
The solution is a platform built in Astro with Vue and Tailwind, using Umbraco as the CMS. TypeScript and Storybook have also been incorporated to improve testing and maintain a structured development process.
Based on the CVI from e-Types, the design is simple, clear, and playfully inviting, appealing to both parents and potential volunteers to encourage children to embark on outdoor adventures. The ambition was to remove as many barriers as possible in busy family lives, making it easier to integrate nature into everyday life, weekends, and holidays.
The platform serves as a central hub for nature-based activities across the country, specifically tailored for children and families. It also simplifies the process for interested volunteers to learn how to get involved, participate in training courses, and access relevant information.
The Tid til Tur platform has provided families with children and volunteers with a single point of access to nature experiences across the country. Organisations now have a strong digital tool to reach a wider audience, consolidate their activities, and make it easier to engage new volunteers. The solution removes a number of barriers and supports the mission of bringing more children closer to nature - whether through spontaneous outings or planned events. It has already made a noticeable difference for children, adults, and volunteer nature guides alike.
Among families who have participated in a guided nature tour, as many as 84% report a change in their children’s behaviour. For example, children show a greater desire to spend time in nature and talk more about animals and plants. At the same time, 66% of adults feel better equipped to take the initiative for nature experiences themselves, and 65.6% have subsequently carried out activities inspired by their experience. These experiences also increase the desire to share with others - 92% of participants would recommend Tid til Tur to friends and family.
The project has also mobilised a strong community of volunteers. So far, 263 nature guides have been trained through 340 course participants, and together they have hosted more than 230 tours with around 3,850 children and adults taking part. Interest in following the activities is also growing. More than 4,000 people currently receive the tour newsletter, and approximately 1,400 have subscribed to the Nature Guide newsletter.
